Our clinical trials team is focusing on the following areas of research:
- Understanding the difference between normal aging and dementia
- Identifying mild cognitive impairment vs. Alzheimer’s disease
- Identifying and testing more effective treatments for Alzheimer’s disease
- Identifying biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease in order to better detect and diagnosis the disease earlier
The center’s primary research study is its longitudinal study, which has helped researchers learn about the clinical development and pathology of the disease. This study involves an annual no cost physical, neurologic, and neuropsychological assessment to persons with and without memory loss who qualify for participation. The assessment can be provided in English or Spanish.
To find out more about this study and how to participate, visit the Shiley-Marcos ADRC web site, which has a list of currently enrolling studies.
In addition to the longitudinal study, they have a wide array of clinical drug trials and other studies available to persons with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. If you are interested in clinical trials but don’t find one for which you are eligible or is applicable to your situation, you may join our ADRC Registry and be placed on a list of potential participants for future studies.
Participants may be normal controls, have a slight memory problem or be diagnosed with early to moderate Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Call the ADRC at (858) 622-5800 and ask for Christina Gigliotti, Ph.D. or e-mail Christina at cgigliotti@ucsd.edu.
