The Neurospinal Disorders Program at UC San Diego Neurological Institute is the most comprehensive spine treatment center in the region. We diagnose and treat all diseases and injuries of the spine.
The issues we treat include:

- Spinal injuries
- Spinal tumors
- Spinal stenosis
- Nerve tumors (schwannomas and neurofibromas)
- Nerve pain
- Ruptured or herniated cervical discs
- Ruptured herniated lumbar discs
- Weakness or paralysis due to spinal stenosis
We utilize the most advanced imaging techniques and electrodiagnostic technologies to diagnose neurospinal disorders and for preoperative planning. We also have state-of-the-art intraoperative monitoring services to guide our surgeons during these procedures.
Our team has a comprehensive range of expertise, from leaders in minimally invasive spine surgery to complex reconstructive surgery. Our surgeons regularly utilize computer guidance systems providing precision 3D images of the spine.
Our spine surgeons include:
David Barba, MD - expert in conditions of the lumbar spine
Justin Brown, MD - expert in spinal tumors, cervical spine disorders and spine conditions resulting in weakness or paralysis
Joseph Ciacci, MD - expert in spinal trauma and complex spine reconstruction
William Taylor, MD - national leader in minimally invasive spinal interventions
Some neurospinal disorders may not require surgery and may be treated by physical therapy and rehabilitation. See Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Services.
