Financial Information

UC San Diego Medical Center Dietetic Internship does not offer a stipend. Tuition fees are $8,000.00. The first half of tuition is due the first day of Orientation week. The last half of tuition is due at the midpoint of dietetic internship. The $50.00 application fee is non-refundable. A full time dietetic internship can be financially challenging, yet it is strongly recommended that the intern not hold employment due to scheduled work and project requirements. In addition, we will not grant time off from the internship for employment.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation and many state dietetic associations have excellent scholarship programs. Please contact your DPD advisor, the Foundation, or your state dietetic association for further information.

Interns resigning from the internship after the program has started must submit a written resignation letter and schedule an exit interview with Internship Director. No portion of the application fee or tuition fee is refundable in the event of resignation or expulsion from the internship.

Interns are required to locate their own housing. Housing arrangements should be made prior to starting the internship. Although many rotations will be at the medical center, interns need access to reliable transportation to get to off-site rotations and field trips.

Dietetic Internship Estimated Expenses

Interns must locate their own housing. The Hillcrest area in San Diego is located close to the UC San Diego Medical Center with a variety of small houses and apartments available. Housing arrangements should be made prior to starting the internship. Interns need a reliable vehicle to get to other sites and field trips. We require professional liability insurance, through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, prior to the start of the internship.

We strongly recommend personal health insurance purchased at the interns’ expense. After acceptance into the internship, we require interns to have a complete medical exam at the UCSD Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine, drug screen and a background check paid for by Human Resources. The background check includes a criminal record search.
