Investigational drug studies must be approved by the UCSD Committee on Investigations Involving Human Subjects. The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive investigational drug services including inventory management, drug accountability, assistance with research protocol development, blinding, randomization and drug formulation.
This service is available to all investigators at UCSD. Investigational drugs for inpatients are required to be issued by the pharmacy. The pharmacy must receive a copy of the signed patient consent form before the drug will be released for patient use. Outpatient study drug may be controlled by the principle investigator or designee.
Investigators who choose to control and distribute their own investigational drugs must comply with all state and federal regulations as well Medical Center policies. For assistance contact the Investigational Drug Pharmacist at extension 32824.
