Adult Outpatient Services

The UCSD Outpatient Psychiatric Services, which includes the UCSD Gifford Clinic and UCSD Psychiatric Associates, provides state-of-the-art diagnostic, psycho-therapeutic and psycho-pharmacological services for adults, couples and families. The experienced and highly trained multidisciplinary staff provides the broadest array of services possible.

Treatment modalities include:

  • Psychotherapy - Individual therapy, both brief and open-ended, couples and family therapy, group psychotherapy and crisis intervention.
  • Psychopharmacologic treatment - Comprehensive evaluation and treatment for individuals needing medication management.
  • Psychological testing - Neuropsychological and personality assessment to assist in differential diagnosis and treatment planning.

Our care philosophy is based on a concern for the overall psychological well-being of our patients and respect for their individual needs.

Our primary goal focuses on alleviating acute psychological distress resulting from life crises and mental disorders and on improving quality of life.  We achieve this goal through the delivery of coordinated psychiatric services provided by a multi-disciplinary team of UCSD faculty and mental health professionals-in-training tailored to the patient’s individual needs.

We believe that a key factor in psychological health is a strong support system and community connection.  We have firmly established relationships with community mental health, social service and self-help groups that we enlist on behalf of our patients.

We strive to coordinate care with all providers involved with our patients to achieve integrated services. We offer psychological, behavioral and psychopharmacological treatments that are based on the latest research within the context of a trusting and respectful therapeutic relationship.
