Organ Transplant Assessments |
|
Organ Transplant Assessments are done in conjunction with the UCSD Center for Transplantation which offers a broad spectrum of transplant programs, including kidney, combination kidney-pancreas, pancreas, liver, and bone marrow/stem cell.
Assessments are conducted on prospective organ recipients, as well as donors, and provide information about neurocognitive and emotional functioning. The clinical interview provides thte foundation of the evaluation rendering information on patient compliance, understanding of the procedure and requirements post-transplant and social support.
Formal neurocognative testing provides information about functioning in a wide array of cognitive domains including attention, memory, language, intellectual functioning, motor and psycho-motoric functioning. Assessment of emotional functioning evaluates for symptoms of depression and anxiety. This data is compiled to generate a report that addresses the patient's ability to provide informed consent, appreciate the demands of the procedure and required follow-up care, and possible need for psychiatric/psychological service.
Patients are referred for assessment through the UCSD Center for Transplantation. For more information, call (619) 543-2827.
