Diagnostic Medical Sonography Training Program
The UC San Diego Health System Sonography Program provides the high quality didactic and clinical experiences needed to create a well-qualified, fully competent general sonographer. The program at UCSD is well known for outstanding sonographers and excellence in student performance.
The 12-month program places an emphasis on clinical training in addition to didactic classes with a weekly schedule that includes one eight hour day of classes and four eight hour days of clinical. Student clinical rotations will be at two of the seven affiliates in San Diego. Each rotation will be for 6 months. Only one student is assigned to each clinical site at a time to maximize the amount of clinical scanning and amount of time spent with the sonographer.
UCSD’s Sonography Training Program provides students with an exceptional educational experience that includes:
- A medical library containing textbooks and journals as well as online resources.
- State-of-the-art diagnostic ultrasound equipment. Students will learn to use a variety of ultrasound equipment.
- A diverse patient population to include both inpatients and outpatients. Students will be exposed to a wide range of illnesses and pathology.
- An excellent student to faculty ratio. Students will work directly with highly skilled sonographers throughout the program to provide direction, knowledge and skills.
The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
