Would you or someone you know like to participate in a new wireless sleep apnea research study involving CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy?
Dr. Carl Stepnowsky, PhD, and colleagues at UCSD are recruiting patients newly diagnosed with sleep apnea who have been prescribed CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy. This study will use a CPAP machine with a convenient wireless monitoring device.
About the study
Dr. Stepnowsky and his associates are conducting this research study to improve the care we provide to our patients with sleep apnea . The purpose of this study is to evaluate different ways of providing education to you about sleep apnea and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) use, and to look at how that education might improve your health outcomes and the amount of time you use CPAP.
As a study participant, you will be asked to follow an educational program that teaches you how to manage your sleep apnea, as well as having 24 hour access to a web site that focuses on sleep apnea and CPAP.
In addition, the study will use a CPAP machine with a convenient monitoring device to help ensure proper CPAP usage during the four-month study duration, as monitored by the study CPAP therapist.
Study participation criteria
- Diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
- Age 18 years or older
- Having chronic symptoms, as noted on screening checklist
- Fluency in English
- Living in the San Diego area
All participants will receive up to $50 reimbursement for travel and expenses, and participation is voluntary.
