    As we age, we have more complaints about our sleep. But does sleep change because we need less sleep, or because we have a harder time getting the sleep we need? Research suggests that it is the ability to sleep that changes rather than the need for sleep. Factors that affect the ability to sleep include changes in biological rhythms, medical and psychiatric illness and the medications associated with them, the prevalence of sleep disorders, and behavioral problems (like poor sleep habits).
