Upon completion of all diagnostic procedures, SOCARE specialists confer with the patient and family members or caregivers to discuss findings and develop a personalized plan of treatment, which may include the following:
- Suggestions for prescribing new or different medication or discontinuing current medication
- Counseling sessions for the patient and/or family members
- Health education and advice
- Information about appropriate community resources
- Safety suggestions
- Medical recommendations
If authorized, the primary care physician will receive a detailed written summary of the SOCARE evaluation, findings and recommendations. Patients without a personal physician may wish to have their post-evaluation care continue with one of the UCSD Medical Center physicians. Referrals for further specialty care are made when appropriate.
Research
Memory aging and Alzheimer's disease are high priorities for research at SOCARE, the Alzheimer's Research Centers of California (ARCC), and through various programs at UCSD Medical Center.
Data is shared with investigators in a statewide network funded by the State of California upon participant approval. SOCARE has many ties to the UCSD Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC), which offers cutting edge research projects on the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The ADRC is supported by the National Institutes of Health.
