Founded in 1965, the Department of Surgery is heavily involved with continuing education for surgeons and physicians, both nationally and internationally. We play a major role in teaching throughout all four years of UCSD School of Medicine curriculum. We have internship and residency programs in seven specialties. In addition, the Department of Surgery has developed unmatched research programs across numerous surgical specialties.
The Department of Medicine is a leading center for research, teaching and clinical care in internal medicine. With nearly 470 full-time faculty members and over 100 academic researchers, the Department of Medicine is the largest of the distinguished departments in the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.
The Center for the Future of Surgery is the largest state-of-the art facility in the nation dedicated to catalyzing novel surgical technologies, techniques and teaching methods to advance safety and innovation in today's operating rooms. The Center’s successes in natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) have gained global acclaim.
