An estimated 35% of deaths from trauma could have been averted by the introduction of prevention programs. The UCSD Trauma Center is dedicated to public education and awareness of trauma-related issues. Some of our prevention and education efforts include:
- An annual safety fair held each summer
- Home safety programs
- Working in collaboration with Safe Communities Organizations to decrease pedestrian and child injury
- A violence prevention grant to train personnel in public health
- A teenage suicide and surveillance program offered in conjunction with the County of San Diego
- Multiple programs and safety presentations given to community school children
Through programs such as these, the UCSD Trauma Center hopes to further reduce the incidence of traumatic injuries in our community.
