So is knowing UCSD Medical Center offers the most treatment options for gynecologic cancers in San Diego
At the age of 49, diagnostic surgery confirmed her doctor’s
suspicion: Barbara Romero had ovarian cancer. But being a
mountain biker, Barbara rose to the challenge. Prior to
chemotherapy, she angrily told her cancer, “You are not going
to beat me.”
Of course, it didn’t hurt that Barbara’s UCSD doctor is also
a researcher. Or that, in the area, UCSD is involved in the
most unique research studies on new drugs to fight ovarian
cancer. Or that Moores UCSD Cancer Center is San Diego’s
only NCI designated comprehensive cancer center, where
discoveries become new treatment options. In remission
now three years, Barbara is still amazed at the power of
academic medicine.
