Fetal Care and Genetics Center

UCSD's Fetal Care and Genetics Center brings together a multidisciplinary team to provide a coordinated approach for the high-risk mother and baby, from pre-conception through birth.  Board certified maternal-fetal medicine specialists, medical geneticists, genetic counselors, radiologists and other specialists provide prenatal and genetic counseling regarding amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and ultrasound findings to patients and families.

The Fetal Care and Genetics Center is a nationally recognized site for ultrasound screening for chromosomal abnormalities and other birth defects. These examinations are typically performed between 18 and 20 weeks of pregnancy and are available for both low and high risk pregnancies.

Our center uses the latest ultrasound imaging technology, including 3D and 4D ultrasound when appropriate, and is staffed by a team of highly trained and experienced sonographers and physicians.

Some women will need further ultrasound examinations later in their pregnancy. Such exams may focus on fetal growth, assessment of the cervix or placenta or follow up of problems suspected by earlier studies.
