Advance Directives

Making difficult decisions about your medical care before you become sick or injured is the best way to protect your rights as a patient.

Advance directives are written documents where you state the kind of medical care you would want in the future, and are based on your values.

You can appoint someone to make health care decisions for you if you become incapable of making them yourself. The person you appoint has no authority to make decisions on your behalf until you become unable to make decisions for yourself.
