When You Leave the Hospital

The staff caring for you at UCSD Medical Center will let you know when you will be discharged.

Before leaving, expect the following:

  • Receive discharge instructions for your self-care and follow-up care
  • Pick up your valuables from the Admissions Department
  • Pick up any discharge medications needed from the pharmacy
  • An escort to the main entrance of the hospital (Public transportation is available, if needed.)

Thank A Staff Member

The online Thank A Staff member form allows UCSD Medical Center patients to acknowledge the excellent patient care they receivded during their hospital stay.

The easy-to-use form allows patients and their families to answer enough questions about their experience and team member being praised to allow the We Listen staff to log the compliment and forward it on to the person being recognized and his or her supervisor.

Patient Relations (We Listen Program)

If your concern remains unresolved or if there are certain matters that you feel require further attention, our Patient Relations (We Listen Program) staff will answer your non-medical questions and help you reach a resolution or provide more information.

To speak to a Patient Relations (We Listen Program) representative, call (619) 543-5678 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

After hours, please contact the Inpatient Nursing Supervisor at (619) 543-3224.

Patient feedback is very important. Our managers frequently visit patients to solicit their feedback and we appreciate your comments. We are continually working to improve our service.

Discharge Survey
Following your discharge or outpatient visit, you may receive a survey in the mail. This survey gives you an opportunity to comment on the care and service provided by UCSD Medical Center. We are very interested in hearing your comments.

We respect your choice if you decide not to participate.  Contact Patient Relations (We Listen) at (619) 543-5678 if you do not want to receive a survey .
