Revised Visitation Guidelines - Fall 2009 |
|
Due to the health risks associated with the H1N1 flu, UC San Diego Medical Center and Thornton Hospital have revised visitation guidelines in effect throughout the flu season:
- Children under 16 years of age are no longer allowed in patient care areas, even when accompanied by an adult.
- The number of ADULT visitors will be limited to two (2) per patient.
- Visitors with flu-like symptoms will be screened, given a mask and asked to leave.
- Under extreme circumstances, if visitation is necessary given the patient’s condition, we will work with families on a case-by-case basis.
We believe this strategy will aid in limiting the presence and spread of H1N1 throughout the hospital and our patients. We also understand the impact it may have on families but we feel strongly about limiting the risks of exposure.
Our first priority is always the wellbeing of our patients, employees and visitors. As you may know, pregnant women and young infants are particularly vulnerable to the H1N1 virus. These basic steps will help protect those special populations as well. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us create a safe, healthy environment.
This protocol will be in effect throughout this flu season, until spring, and will be re-evaluated at that time.
