Pediatric Urology

UC San Diego Health’s pediatric urology program at Rady Children’s Hospital is consistently ranked as a top national pediatric urology program by U.S. News & World Report. We provide comprehensive care to children with genitourinary disorders and injuries from birth to young adulthood. These varied conditions are managed with advanced medical and surgical regimens.

Our team is dedicated to improving the health of your child through UC San Diego Health's clinical and research expertise. Our pediatric urologists have joint appointments at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. Our team of five board-certified pediatric urologists and two nurse practitioners sees over 800 children a month. We also have satellite clinics in Murietta, Encinitas, Escondido and Oceanside.

Conditions We Treat

We are highly skilled in the full breadth of pediatric urological conditions, including:

  • Bladder and cloacal exstrophy
  • Disorders of the genitalia
  • Enuresis (bedwetting)
  • Genitourinary tumors
  • Hematuria (blood in the urine)
  • Hernias and hydroceles
  • Hypospadias
  • Intersex and ambiguous genitalia
  • Neurogenic bladders (e.g., spina bifida)
  • Urinary obstruction and hydronephrosis
  • Urinary stone disease
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • Urolithiasis
  • Vesicoureteral reflux
  • Undescended testes
  • Urinary incontinence and voiding dysfunction
  • Phimosis and circumcision

Neurogenic bladder dysfunction rarely occurs on its own — it is often part of a larger medical issue that requires a multidisciplinary approach. We collaborate with neurologists, neurosurgeons and gastroenterologists to diagnose your condition and create a customized treatment plan based on your age, overall health, type and severity of symptoms, and the cause of the nerve damage.

Our goal is to prevent kidney damage and preserve the upper urinary tract and bladder continence, using the most advanced, minimally invasive nonsurgical and surgical therapies available.
