Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer, UC San Diego Health
Daniel Weissburg is chief compliance and privacy officer (CCPO) for UC San Diego Health. He and the Compliance Department lead the further development of the compliance program in partnership with the Executive Governing Body. A cornerstone of his work is the education of our faculty, executive leadership and all staff on complex and changing compliance requirements.
Mr. Weissburg ensures that all operations are consistent with the UC and UC San Diego Standards of Business Conduct, ethical principles and core values, and that all policies and procedures covering the privacy of and access to patient health information comply with state and federal laws. He also develops, implements and monitors an annual compliance work plan, provides training and education on compliance and privacy issues, and works with health system leaders to ensure appropriate and required privacy documentation is maintained.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Mr. Weissburg served for nine years as the compliance and privacy officer at University of Wisconsin Health, building and leading the compliance program at this academic health system.
A health care attorney and compliance leader since 1991, Mr. Weissburg led the creation and operation of the CCH Healthcare Compliance Portfolio and the Compliance Edge e-learning program. He was previously associated with the law firms of McDermott, Will & Emery (Chicago) and Epstein, Becker & Green (Washington, DC).
Mr. Weissburg earned his JD from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University School. He earned a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was president of the Order of Omega honor society. He is also certified in health care compliance by the Healthcare Compliance Association and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. He has published and lectured widely on healthcare compliance issues.
