UC San Diego Health sponsors a select number of events each year that are strongly aligned with our mission, vision, core values and areas of focus as articulated in our five-year strategic plan.

The guidelines outlined on this page apply to sponsorship requests greater than $10,000 that represent the broad UC San Diego Health brand. Disease-related sponsorship requests must come through the marketing department. Sponsorship is defined as direct financial or in-kind support for special events and may include – though is not limited to – nonprofit agency fundraisers (such as breakfasts, luncheons or dinners), speakers series and lectures, fun runs and walks, health fairs, golf tournaments or other activities that benefit the local communities we serve.

To facilitate our thorough sponsorship review process, we ask that organizations submit only one sponsorship request each fiscal year. Because we will not accept multiple sponsorship requests from the same organization, we ask that you look at your sponsorship needs as a comprehensive, single request for support.

Sponsorship Guidelines

Criteria for sponsorship include:

  1. The event must support one or more of our major clinical programs, such as cardiovascular care, cancer care, woman and infants services or surgical services. We do not support requests for individual or personal sponsorship.
  2. Sponsorship of a national organization must focus on a local or regional event.
  3. The event must involve health and wellness that leads to community benefit, health improvement or education.
  4. The requesting organization and event must reflect positively on UC San Diego Health and must provide appropriate visibility and value-added opportunities for UC San Diego Health, such as logo placement, banners, public service announcements or speaker opportunities. A wrap-up report with photos, samples of programs, t-shirts and any other items agreed upon in the sponsorship contract must be completed upon conclusion of the sponsorship year.

Application and Selection Process

Requests for sponsorship must be submitted in writing on a university-approved form by June 1 of the requesting year, as our fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. A committee of marketing, communications and hospital leadership meets annually to review, evaluate and make sponsorship recommendations.
