Find a COVID-19 Clinical Trial

Though our clinical trials and research studies, UC San Diego Health leads the region’s efforts to prevent COVID-19 and improve treatments for people with the disease.

By volunteering for a trial or study, you get a chance to participate in groundbreaking research and contribute to developing better cures and treatment options. Our clinical trials and studies are open to the entire community. We invite you to be part of the solution and help us end the pandemic.

COVID-19 Vaccine Trials

If you would like to enroll in an ongoing or upcoming vaccine trial, the first step is to complete a volunteer screening process to see if you match the study's eligibility criteria.

Clinical trials are done in steps called phases. Through our participation in COVID-19 Prevention Network, we have three Phase 3 vaccine trials:

  • The AstraZeneca trial uses an inactivated common cold virus (adenovirus) to spur immunity in your body. Learn more about this vaccine and complete the screening registry: AstraZeneca trial at UC San Diego Health.
  • The Janssen trial tests a single dose of a deactivated common cold virus, modified to carry the SARS-CoV-2’s characteristic spike protein. Learn more about this vaccine and complete the screening registry: Janssen trial at UC San Diego Health.
  • The Moderna trial uses a novel mRNA formulation to stimulate a protective immune response. This trial has finished enrolling participants.

Keep in mind that we will be participating in other vaccine trials over the next year. If you are interested in being on the list of potential volunteers for upcoming trials, please join the COVID-19 Prevention Network's volunteer screening registry. If you have questions and would like to connect with a study coordinator, send an email or call 619-742-0433.

COVID-19 Therapeutics Trials

Besides vaccines, we are also studying treatments for COVID-19.

  • We are part of a monoclonal antibody therapy study launched by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to evaluate the safety and efficacy of potential new medicines for adults with COVID-19. To see if you qualify for this or another national therapeutics study, complete a short screening on the ACTIV-2 study website.
