Extended Bill Payment Plans

As part of our commitment to providing the highest-quality care and patient experience, we offer the ClearBalance program, which helps you spread out the cost of your medical bills at UC San Diego Health over time. ClearBalance is a leading provider of patient‑friendly financing programs for hospitals and health systems.

The program provides post‑service extended payment plans with terms starting at 13 months. You have the option to:

• Combine multiple balances for medically necessary health care services into a single account with one convenient monthly payment
• Include charges for medically necessary services for you or family members in the consolidated account
• Pay zero interest on your payment plan

Note: Cosmetic services are not eligible for ClearBalance payment plans.

ClearBalance also offers convenient self‑service tools, including online account access and pay‑by‑phone options. It has a dedicated customer support team to assist if you have questions.

ClearBalance accounts are not reported to the credit bureaus, so participating in this program will not impact your credit score.

Once your account balance has been paid off, you may request a payment-in-full letter for confirmation.

To sign up, click the ClearBalance link in the Billing Summary section of your MyUCSDChart account.

Yes, you can add or combine charges for other medical services at UC San Diego Health to your ClearBalance account in a process known as refinancing.

You can also add account balances of eligible family members receiving care at UC San Diego Health.

Once you receive additional services, your post-insurance balance may be submitted for refinancing. The additional charges will appear as advances in the transaction section of your monthly billing statement from Columbia Bank, which partners with ClearBalance to offer the program.

Yes. One of the primary benefits of the ClearBalance program is that you can add balances of family members to your account.

UC San Diego Health does not disclose details about the type of health care services you received. We share only the minimum information necessary to make this program available to you.

Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies every person who opens an account. This may include your name, address, date of birth and other identifying information, including your driver’s license.

Federal regulations require a Social Security or Tax ID number to open a ClearBalance account. Please rest assured that your information is protected.

Yes. You are still eligible to apply for a ClearBalance account. The company may accept a copy of an unexpired government-issued ID (such as a passport) from your country of origin.

ClearBalance can mail information to a P.O. Box address, but a physical address is required to open an account.

There may be several reasons that the information you provided didn’t clear the automated verification system, such as address or name changes.

To complete your account setup, you must provide an email address. Then, you will receive an email from noreplycp@clearbalance.com with a link to submit/upload information for verification. You can then review the program materials and complete your enrollment.

ClearBalance accounts are zero-interest accounts. However, if you fail to pay your minimum payment for 60 days or more, Columbia Bank may impose a 1.99% penalty rate.

If this occurs, you will receive at least 45 days’ notice with the opportunity to make payments to bring your account current or close your account to avoid the penalty rate.

The monthly payment shown on your billing statement is reflected in your agreement at the time of sign-up. If you can’t afford that payment, please contact ClearBalance at 888-334-4022 to discuss available options.
