Senior Behavioral Health Unit (SBH)

Scope of Service/Type of Patients:

Senior Behavioral Health is a voluntary inpatient unit for patients 65 years and older with psychiatric disorders, or for younger patients with confirmed or probable cognitive disorders. The Unit specializes in caring for older patients with acute psychiatric illnesses which may be complicated by co-morbid medical conditions. Older patients may present with medical problems, complicating their psychiatric problems. Staff is proficient in providing both psychiatric and medical care. All patient are followed by both a Board-certified Geriatric Psychiatrist and a Geriatric Internist. Treatment is multidisciplinary in approach, and may include pharmacotherapy, psychotherapeutic and behavioral interventions, group therapy, family/caregiver and patient education, including family meetings, occupational and physical therapy, and neuropsychological evaluations. The Unit philosophy is to integrate family members into treatment and discharge planning as much as possible.

We prefer ANCC certification in Mental Health and /or Geriatrics

Who We Are

The unit was built specifically to meet the needs of the geriatric population.  A structured treatment program with multidisciplinary team including RN's, LVN's, MHW's, OT and SW, Geriatric MD specialists, NP's and Pharmacists specializing in psychiatry all work together to provide exceptional care to seniors.  It is a restraint free, secured unit.  Patient satisfaction consistently is rated in the high 90% by patients and families.  SBH is a NICHE (Nurses Improving Care in Health System Elders) exemplar designated facility.

Ideal Candidates

Must love Seniors! An active CA RN license, recent RN experience in both psychiatry and medical nursing preferred.  Strong assessment and communication skills and must work well as a team member.
