The Department of Nursing at UC San Diego is dedicated to superior quality in patient care, education, and research. Support from our generous donors has enabled us to help our nurses in their pursuit of higher education and advanced training so that we can deliver compassionate care to every patient.
UC San Diego Health is among the prestigious list of healthcare organizations that have been recognized as part of the American Nursing Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, which recognizes superior quality in nursing care. Achieving Magnet status was the culmination of a journey that started in early 2007 as a means to demonstrate UC San Diego Health’s commitment to clinical excellence.
One key criteria of having and maintaining Magnet status, is the need for continuing education for our nursing staff. The American Nurses Association in collaboration with the Institute of Medicine (IOM) has endorsed the research that demonstrates nurses with a BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing), or higher academic preparation, contribute to better patient outcomes. UC San Diego Health endorses this concept and has supported this in a number of ways despite a limited budget. However, it is our hope that through increasing donations we can play a larger role in the financial support of academic programs that are very expensive and time-intensive for the working professional.
If you would like to support our nurses, there are a number of ways to give – outright gift of cash, payroll deduction for UC San Diego faculty and staff, appreciated securities, annual gift, pledge (a gift over time), matching gift through your employer, or a planned gift.
