In June, Pride flags were raised at East Campus Medical Center, Hillcrest Medical Center and Jacobs Medical Center and the flags will continue to wave throughout the month of July as a visible reminder of our commitment to care for all with dignity and respect.
As part of our Pride commemorations this year, the Owen Clinic hosted two panels from the AIDS Quilt, marking 45 years since the first reported cases of the HIV epidemic. Since 1982, the Owen Clinic has proudly served our community, providing compassionate care and support for people with and affected by HIV.
Adding to our celebrations is the 100% score received by Hillcrest Medical Center in the biannual 2026 Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), the industry standard benchmarking tool for LGBTQ+ inclusion and equity practices in the health care field released by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). Since 2012, the HRC has recognized UC San Diego Health as a leader or high performer in its annual Healthcare Equality Index — the first health system in San Diego County to receive this designation.
The vibrant lighting of our buildings and raising of Pride flags serve as a visible and meaningful expression of our mission of equitable care, as well as a celebration of our continued support for our LGBTQ+ colleagues, patients, and neighbors.

The specialty clinics at UC San Diego Health Owen Clinic in Hillcrest address key health issues for many people living with HIV, or at risk of contracting it. Our multidisciplinary teams are non-judgmental and inclusive and are dedicated to helping our patients overcome barriers to care that many people with HIV face.
