We know that the financial aspects of health care treatment can be challenging and stressful. We will work with all eligible patients to help them receive medically necessary care at UC San Diego Health.
Depending on your household income and family size, you may qualify for financial assistance. The discount percentage is determined by a sliding scale. Those with a family income at or below 200 percent of
federal poverty guidelines (FPG) generally qualify for a 100 percent discount. Those with a family income of 200 percent to 400 percent of federal poverty guidelines generally qualify for a partial discount.
Financial assistance is available to those with or without healthcare insurance.

Discounts for Self-Pay Patients
For self-pay patients who do not qualify for financial assistance, we offer a discount equal to 45 percent of the estimated gross charges for many qualifying services. For more information, call 855-827-3633.

UC San Diego Health Financial Assistance Program (Charity Care)
The Financial Assistance Program, also known as Charity Care, offers emergency and other medically necessary services at low or no cost to the patient. A discount rate is applied automatically at the time of billing to uninsured individuals.
Determination of Eligibility for the Financial Assistance Program is made based on review of a completed Financial Screening Form and supporting documents, including proof of income, assets, and liabilities. Generally patients with family income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level will be eligible for a discount of 100%. Patients with family income between 201% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level may be eligible for a partial discount based on income level. If you receive financial assistance under our Policy, you will not be charged more for emergency or other medically necessary care than the amount we generally bill patients having Medicare coverage.

Providers Who Do Not Participate in Financial Assistance
Certain UC San Diego Health physicians, such as those not contracted with the UC San Diego Medical Group rendering health care services at UC San Diego Health, do not participate with UC San Diego Health's Financial Assistance Program.
