Massage and Acupuncture for Cancer Patients

stones and bambooAcupuncture and oncology massage can benefit patients with cancer during treatment to safely alleviate side effects, and during remission to restore vitality and boost immunity. Both treatments can help reduce stress and improve sleep and overall quality of life.

Oncology Massage

Full-body, 60-minute oncology massage appointments are available to patients who are currently or were previously in cancer treatment.

Oncology massage is an adapted massage. Our trained oncology massage therapist considers your diagnosis, current and past treatment and their side effects, implanted devices, and mobility or positional restrictions to provide a safe and effective massage. This type of therapeutic massage can be safely used on patients in active treatment.

Oncology massage can alleviate stress, muscle aches and tension, fatigue, insomnia and immobility, digestive problems, and more. Stress reduction and overall relaxation can lead to better sleep, increased circulation, reduction in neuropathy symptoms (tingling in feet or hands, reduction in pain and stiffness, and overall well-being.

Initial appointments are free for all oncology patients, and subsequent visits have been subsidized to a cost of $40 per session, payable by cash or check only. Call us for more information at 858-822-6100.

In addition, patients can enjoy a complimentary 20-minute foot massage during their infusion treatments. Your infusion nurse can let you know if the massage therapist is available, or you will hear an announcement when you are in the infusion center notifying patients when this free massage service is possible.

Acupuncture can complement conventional cancer therapies such as chemotherapy, radiation, biological therapy and surgery. It can ease the effects of cancer treatment, including nausea and vomiting, anxiety, neuropathy, fatigue, pain, headaches, hot flashes, joint pain and arthritis.
