Managing your health care and a long-term stay in a foreign setting can be a daunting experience. For this reason, UC San Diego Health provides personalized services for all international patients through our international patient coordinator program.
Your coordinator is your advocate within UC San Diego Health and can help you access all of the special services you would expect from a world-class hospital.
Your coordinator will guide you through the
process for becoming a patient and help you with special needs or requests throughout your care.
Medical Coordination
Your medical requirements will be reviewed and assessed before your arrive in the United States. Medical coordination includes:
- Matching your medical needs and provider requests with the best provider
Arranging routine or specialty appointments and inpatient admissions
Scheduling comprehensive physicals that include VIP service
Arranging for medical records to be reviewed
Working with your home physician to discuss your complete medical history and arrange for a referral
Providing any necessary translation services for medical literature
Preparing a report that includes a treatment plan, an estimated length of stay and an approximate cost for your care.
Medical coordination is usually conducted before making financial arrangements.
Follow-Up Care
When it is time for you to return home, we will compile a package of information for your personal physician. This information will detail your follow-up care instructions, medications and a translation of the procedures performed while you were our patient. Your personal physician is welcome to contact UC San Diego Health at any time to address any concerns that may arise.
