Diabetes and Pregnancy: Our Team

Dr. Thomas Moore and Dr. Sandy Ramos are perinatologists who are recognized experts on diabetes during pregnancy. The Diabetes and Pregnancy team also includes nurse educators, social workers, nutritionists and sonographers with extensive experience in diabetes.

Thomas Moore, MD

Dr. Moore believes that service to society, especially the underserved, is the highest possible goal. He continues to feel that his role as a physician is a unique opportunity to contribute to the personal health and well-being of his patients. "My specialty focuses upon high-risk pregnancies, diseases that affect the fetus and problems in pregnancy. My strongest commitment is assisting mothers achieve their goals in birthing healthy babies. It's very gratifying to help women understand how pregnancy affects their bodies and what they can do to ensure the outcome of their pregnancies."

Dr. Moore is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and maternal-fetal medicine. He attended medical school at Yale University, and trained at Naval Hospital San Diego and UC San Diego. He is director of Women's Health Services at UC San Diego.

Sandy Ramos, MD 

Gladys "Sandy" Ramos, MD

Dr. Ramos believes that caring for women during pregnancy is a privilege. "I have a particular interest in providing care to women with diabetes during pregnancy. I have conducted several research studies on women with diabetes with the hopes of learning how to improve their care and the health of their babies. While diabetes is a serious disease, I work with mothers to make their pregnancies as healthy and enjoyable as possible. My goal is to teach women how to optimize their care to impact the short-term and long-term health of their unborn child."

Dr. Ramos is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and maternal-fetal medicine. She attended medical school at University of California, Irvine, and trained at Kaiser Permanente and UC San Diego.
