A Center of Excellence
UC San Diego Health is recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), a designation earned by fewer than 6 percent of all breast imaging centers in California. Learn more
Our Breast Imaging Center sees 14,000 women each year for screening and diagnosis, and each is examined by a board-certified radiologist with specialized fellowship training in breast imaging. Because our radiologists have dedicated their careers to breast care, they have the expertise needed to provide detailed, accurate interpretations of your mammograms and other imaging studies.
Why Choose Us?
It Takes Wisdom
We are working to end the confusion around breast cancer screening recommendations by comparing two safe and accepted screening recommendations: mammography and personalized screening with genetic testing. Learn more and register to participate at:
Our specialized expertise in breast imaging can mean:
- Fewer false positives
- Fewer unnecessary invasive procedures
- Earlier detection of a potentially aggressive cancer
- A more sophisticated understanding of your health status
Our care environment is centered around you with conveniences to foster prevention and long-term health, including:
- After-work and Saturday hours at our La Jolla location
- The ability to schedule other well-women procedures (such as bone density scans) at the same facility on the same day
As a patient at UC San Diego Health, you have access to a full range of breast imaging and related services, including:
As the region's only academic medical center, our radiologists conduct research and track outcomes to improve breast health for every woman. One of our ongoing studies, for example, is testing the effectiveness of a more targeted approach to breast cancer screening. Women at higher risk are being screened more often, while those at lower risk are being screened less often.
You may be able to participate in research studies that help us further understand and explore breast health, including your own. Your participation is voluntary and will not affect the quality of care you receive with us. We are dedicated to each person's health and care.
