Speech Pathology

Patients admitted to the hospital for treatment of their medical condition may also exhibit swallowing and communication impairments. These disorders are often identified by the patient’s nurse or physician. Speech pathology services for evaluation and treatment are subsequently requested by the physician. Patients are evaluated at bedside and a treatment plan is initiated. Patient and family education are incorporated into the plan. Regaining the ability to communicate and swallow effectively has a significant impact on recovery from a serious illness.
