Our physicians are dedicated to improving health outcomes for critically injured patients and those in acute surgical need.
Our success is due in large part to our collaborative energy and partnerships – bringing together experts in academic medicine, basic scientists, epidemiologists, public health professionals, emergency medical professionals, city and county government officials, and most importantly, the public.
UC San Diego Health clinical and research faculty are engaged in a robust research program that includes clinical outcomes and basic science / translational research. Our multidisciplinary approach is supported by collaboration with colleagues from several departments across the UC San Diego School of Medicine.
clinical research efforts use both institutional databases and large-scale data sources to ask clinically relevant questions to improve the care of our patients. Our faculty actively participate in, and often lead multi-center studies aimed at addressing clinical topics that have helped shape the management of trauma and critical care internationally.
Basic Science Research
basic-science research group consists of an integrated team of surgeon-scientists and PhD researchers who share a common goal of performing "bench to bedside" research. We use cellular, molecular, and genetic techniques to better understand the human injury response with the goal of improving outcomes in patients following severe injury and infection.
