What is a Burn Center?
A burn center is a specialized center devoted to the care of people who experience burns and critical soft tissue conditions.
Our Burn Center provides leading-edge treatment to residents of San Diego and Imperial Counties who have experienced major or minor burns.
Each year we admit approximately 450 burn victims and we treat hundreds more as outpatients in the burn clinics.
Led by Bruce Potenza, MD, the multidisciplinary burn center team responds to the complex medical issues experienced by burn patients. Our specialized staff has advanced training in the sophisticated and skilled care needed by seriously injured patients and includes experts in:
- Plastic and reconstructive surgery
- Social work
- Pain management
- Child life
- Physical and occupational therapy
The Regional Burn Center provides comprehensive care to burn patients from resuscitation in the burn intensive care unit, through rehabilitation in outpatient clinics. We are committed to caring for people touched by burn injury through numerous support programs for patients and families.
