Hillcrest Medical Campus Vision
The redevelopment of the 62-acre Hillcrest medical campus is a major step forward for UC San Diego Health and health care in central San Diego and beyond. With modern, state-of-the-art facilities and upgraded infrastructure, we will enhance the vitality and creativity of the region's only academic medical center, leading to new ideas and new ways of practicing medicine.
We will continue to deliver all the critical care services that define our more than 50-year commitment to the community. This includes a Level 1 Trauma Center, Regional Burn Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, as well as an Emergency Department with more than 50,000 patient visits per year.
Be Part of the Future of Health Care
Give to the Hillcrest Redevelopment Project
We've been a beacon of hope and healing in Hillcrest since 1966, when the university began operating the former county hospital. Already a premier destination for patients in our region, you can help us expand and improve our ability to deliver world-class care to our community.
Protecting Canyon Wildlife
The natural canyon areas around the medical campus are home to many native plant and wildlife species. To protect this vibrant biodiversity, we designated 20-plus acres as “Canyon District” land use, which will remain natural open space. We are also carefully planning for barriers, signage, and appropriate lighting and landscaping near the Canyon District.
