Kenneth McFarland, CPA, MBA
Chief Executive, East Campus Medical Center
Kenneth McFarland is the chief executive at East Campus Medical Center at UC San Diego Health. He leads over 800 team members who deliver world-class care to patients in the San Diego region and beyond. Mr. McFarland oversees the high-quality programs and services at East Campus Medical Center, including an emergency department accredited for geriatric care, comprehensive behavioral health, inpatient critical care, telemetry, and general medical, surgical, cath-lab and endoscopy outpatient services.
Mr. McFarland is an accomplished health care executive with proven success in leading large, complex organizations. He has over 25 years of health care leadership experience, which includes building physician and administrative alignment, fiscal management, developing talent, mergers and acquisitions, and assimilating newly merged organizations.
Prior to his current role, Mr. McFarland served as chief executive officer of the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center in Orange County, Calif. Earlier in his career, he held various senior leadership roles with Mission Hospital in South Orange County. While there, he served as president and chief executive officer for five years.
Before working in the health care industry, Mr. McFarland spent seven years with PepsiCo and PepsiCo International. He began his career with Ernst & Young in Los Angeles and performed audit and consulting services for their LA, Honolulu and Orange County offices.
Mr. McFarland has served on numerous health care advocacy boards, including: First 5 Orange County – Children and Families Commission, as a commissioner; the Hospital Association of Southern California, as a board member and Orange County area chair; and the Emergency Medical Care Committee and Camino Health Center and Community Benefits Clinic (FQHC), as a board member and treasurer.
He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of California Irvine with a focus in finance and economics, and a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance from California Polytechnic University in Pomona, Calif. He is a licensed CPA (inactive) in California and Hawaii.
Mr. McFarland is married and has two adult sons.
