Patty Maysent is chief executive officer of UC San Diego Health, the region's only academic health system, comprising UC San Diego Medical Center, Jacobs Medical Center, Shiley Eye Institute and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, as well as other primary and specialty practices located throughout Southern California. Appointed CEO in 2016, she oversees a $2 billion annual operating budget and more than 9,000 employees.
Bringing a wealth of experience in leadership and strategic planning to her role, Maysent has focused on growth and expansion — enhancing UC San Diego Health's reputation as a health care destination for complex specialty care and local, community-based care. She has been instrumental in building an award-winning hospital, outpatient pavilion and multiple community clinics, including Rancho Bernardo, Encinitas and the newest location, Eastlake in Chula Vista.
Maysent has elevated UC San Diego Health services and programs to enhance the lives of patients and residents of the community. In 2018, UC San Diego Health provided $423.7 million in community benefits, including uncompensated and government-sponsored care, charity care and other health services.
Under her leadership, the organization continues to earn top honors. UC San Diego Health maintains Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence. The health system was named one of the top ten academic medical centers for patient care by Vizient, Inc. and The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid also bestowed recognition for providing high-quality hospital care. The prestigious The Leapfrog Group gave a coveted “A” rating to both the La Jolla and Hillcrest hospitals and named the Hillcrest facility as a top teaching hospital. Additionally, the nation's largest LGBTQ civil rights organization awarded UC San Diego Health a perfect score on its Healthcare Equality Index.
Maysent was appointed CEO in 2016 after serving as chief of staff and chief strategy officer. In addition, she serves on the board of the California Hospital Association.
Previously, she was CEO of St. Jude Medical Center and served as a consultant for University of Southern California's Keck Medical Center and Alliance Healthcare Services. She holds a bachelor's degree in human biology from Stanford University and a master's in business administration and public health from UCLA.
