Chief Administrative Officer – Operations
Brendan Kremer is the chief administrative officer – operations (CAOO) at UC San Diego Health. He is responsible for the clinical, financial and operational performance of all clinical service lines and programs. In addition, Mr. Kremer is responsible for hospital support services, including facilities, food and nutrition, environmental services, and security. He works with leaders from experience, compliance, quality, strategy and finance to ensure that hospital operations are designed to meet the needs and requirements of patients, physicians, staff and the public.
Previously, Mr. Kremer was the chief administrative officer—clinical programs for anesthesiology, musculoskeletal, neuroscience, radiology and surgery at UC San Diego Health. In this role, he was responsible for setting strategic and long-term priorities, including expansion and growth of respective clinical programs; implementing growth and quality initiatives and achieving related financial performance goals; achieving integration of clinical administrative responsibilities for faculty practice, all related inpatient and outpatient and ambulatory clinical services; and managing physician/provider relationships.
Mr. Kremer also served as an associate administrator and was responsible for the surgical, neuromusculoskeletal and imaging service lines, as well as the operations of various hospital departments including Imaging, Neurophysiology, Anesthesiology, Interventional Radiology and Rehabilitation Services. He played a leading role in the creation of a variety of new multidisciplinary programs, including the University Ambulatory Surgery Center, the Preoperative Care Center, and the Perlman Hand and Physical Therapy Clinic.
Mr. Kremer has worked with teams of physicians and staff in the development of plans covering growth, quality, finance and service. He helped lead a redesign of the access process for Imaging Services and a capital improvement program that added new advanced imaging capabilities to both the Hillcrest and La Jolla campuses. He also participated in the development of a 50-bed cardiovascular center and the planning for a 250-bed medical center expansion. In addition, he helped lead successful accreditation reviews from the American College of Surgeons and California Children’s Services. Since joining UC San Diego Health in 1999, he has held several roles, including administrative director, assistant director of professional services and senior financial analyst. Prior to coming to UC San Diego Health, Mr. Kremer worked at several other major health care institutions including Tenet HealthCare, Huntington Memorial Hospital and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Mr. Kremer holds a master of health service administration and bachelor of science in public administration from the University of Southern California. He serves as a board member for the University Ambulatory Surgical Center, and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the San Diego Organization of Healthcare Leaders. He is also a Grammy voting member for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Mr. Kremer lives in Encinitas with his wife and their twin daughters.
