Molecular Tumor Board

A collaborative approach to your cancer care

Tumor boards are meetings where doctors and healthcare providers collaborate to discuss individual cancer cases.

The goal is to bring together specialists from medical oncology, surgery and radiation oncology, among others, to create the most effective treatment plan for you.

How This Benefits You

For select patients, the Molecular Tumor Board is a vital resource. These collaborative meetings ensure your care incorporates the latest research breakthroughs, often providing access to research studies and clinical trials—offering you additional treatment options. This personalized approach reflects our commitment to improving your prognosis and quality of life.

What Happens at a Molecular Tumor Board Meeting?

At UC San Diego Health, our Molecular Tumor Board takes an innovative approach to the traditional tumor board model. During these meetings, treatment recommendations are discussed for patients whose tumors have undergone advanced genomic testing, and, when applicable, immune parameters may also be evaluated.

Doctors and scientists from various specialties collaborate to analyze your health, using both genomic and immunologic information to guide personalized treatment decisions. For instance, if genomic testing reveals a mutation in your tumor, the team can recommend therapies specifically targeting that mutation.
