Surgical Endoscopy, the official journal of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and European Association for Endoscopic Surgery.

Surgical Endoscopy is a leading source of information on the practice, theory, and research of interventional endoscopy, ultrasound, and other techniques in the fields of gastroenterology, obstetrics, gynecology, and urology. It also covers work in gastroenterologic, thoracic, traumatic, orthopedic, and pediatric surgery.
“Dr. Talamini is a groundbreaking surgeon who is transforming the world of scarless surgical techniques,” said David Brenner, MD, UC San Diego Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine. “Always at the nexus of what is new, he will bring his drive for innovation and clinical excellence to this new editorial role.”
In 2008, his surgical team gained worldwide attention for pioneering natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (NOTES), the practice of removing diseased organs through natural body openings. Part of the UC San Diego Center for the Future of Surgery, the team was the first in the United States to remove an appendix through the mouth and through the vagina.
A highly respected surgeon, researcher, and teacher, Talamini is recognized as one of the leading authorities on
laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery in the United States. In his clinics and surgeries at UC San Diego Medical Center and Moores UCSD Cancer Center, he specializes in
gastrointestinal surgery,with a particular emphasis on the treatment of
inflammatory bowel disease.
Talamini is the author of
Advanced Therapy in Minimally Invasive Surgery, an in-depth exploration of new and emerging surgical practices.
The editorial role at
Surgical Endoscopy, published by Springer, will be shared with Sir Alfred Cuschieri of the
University of
Dundee. Talamini will be primarily responsible for submissions from North and South America and
Asia.
