UC San Diego Health System has been recognized by the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) as a “Top Overall Physician Performing Organization” in California.  Out of over 200 organizations, UC San Diego Health System also received honorable mentions in “Diabetes Care” and “IT Enabled Systemness.” This is the third consecutive year that UC San Diego Health System has been recognized by IHA for its clinical quality, patient experience, IT capabilities, and coordinated care.

“It’s an honor to be one of three medical groups in San Diego and the only in the University of California system to receive this prestigious recognition. The award represents the hard work and dedication of our doctors and staff in managed care, decision support and our clinics,” said Lawrence Friedman, MD, medical director of quality, safety and primary care at UC San Diego Health System. “Quality of care is our first priority at UC San Diego Health System and this award is evidence of our commitment.”

Each year, IHA determines the top physician groups that have demonstrated best overall performance on select health care quality measures, including preventive care and chronic care management, patient satisfaction, and use of information technology to support safer, more effective care. Physician groups whose overall performance score surpassed a comprehensive statewide threshold based on the top 25 percent score for each P4P quality measure are selected for recognition as Top Overall Performers.

“UC San Diego Health System is dedicated to consistently raising the bar on performance improvement,” said Doris G. Johnson, director of Medical Group Managed Care at UC San Diego Health System. “Our medical group team leads the process in multi-disciplinary efforts to improve quality, patient experience and infrastructure to support patient care. Kudos to our clinic managers, doctors, and staff whose extraordinary leadership and innovative spirit made this possible.”

IHA is a statewide leadership group that promotes quality improvement, accountability, and affordability of healthcare in California. The IHA P4P program is the largest non-governmental physician incentive program in the U.S. and includes eight health plans and more than 200 medical organizations representing approximately 35,000 physicians providing care for 10 million members.
