May 11, 2012 - Nursing is a family affair for Rebecca Dodd-Sullivan. Her mother Barbara Dodd, 73, is a nurse and her daughter Sydney, is heading to nursing school.
Last month, the trio took a trip to Mexicali to help doctors perform corrective surgery on children with cleft lips and palates.
“This is a great opportunity for us to help people who wouldn’t be able to get the medical attention they need otherwise,” Dodd-Sullivan said.
Her mother has been going on these missions for more than 25 years and her daughter has been volunteering for about seven years.
Barbara Dodd worked for decades as a nurse and inspired her daughter in the profession. They in turn have inspired Sydney to pursue work in this field.
“Nursing and health care in general definitely runs in the family,” Dodd-Sullivan said.
