Pradeep K. Khosla, University’s 8th Chancellor, Visits UC San Health System

On August 6, 2012, UC San Diego Health hosted UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla for his first off-campus activity. CEO Paul Viviano, Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine Dr. David Brenner, Chief Strategy Officer Max Reynolds, and Director of Government and Community Affairs Aaron Byzak welcomed the chancellor to the Hillcrest Health System campus. Aaron led the group on a walking tour and told Chancellor Khosla about UC San Diego Medical Center's history and plans for the future.

As part of the tour, Chancellor Khosla met with Dr. Igor Grant and learned about his HIV Neurobehavioral Research Program. The chancellor also met with Dr. Ted Chan to discuss the San Diego Beacon Community Program and was given a behind-the-scenes look at the recently expanded Emergency Department. Dr. Raul Coimbra and Dr. Bruce Potenza showcased the leading-edge patient care provided by the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Burns to the chancellor, and described the impact we have on the community as the only Regional Burn Center south of Orange County.

Chancellor Khosla met with Dr. Thomas Moore and Director of Women and Infants Services Mary Hackim in the Birth Center and talked about the unique women's services offered at UC San Diego Health. Our Birth Center has the distinction of being the only birth center cradled within a hospital on the West Coast and recently celebrated its 4,000th delivery. The chancellor also visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and met with Dr. Frank Mannino, Dr. Neil Finer and Nurse Manager Jan Hebert to learn about the services provided to our tiniest patients as the region's only Level III NICU within a birthing facility. At the end of the tour, Chancellor Khosla joined Senior Management Team (SMT) members and department chairs for a reception.
