Your toddler has a fever, you need a flu shot or you hurt your ankle during a run. Having to seek medical care can be stressful, especially if it includes driving a far distance to receive it. UC San Diego Health is trying to improve the experience by bringing high quality care closer to our communities. Today, we are proud to announce the opening of a new clinic in Eastlake, located at 2295 Otay Lakes Road.

“We have been expanding into neighborhoods from North County to East County to ensure that we are there when our patients — and our own team members — need us," said Patty Maysent, CEO. "Whether it's for a routine physical or something more complex, with more locations and more doctors, patients have more options for same-day care, urgent care or primary care that's closer to home. We know that when you feel better, life is better."

The Eastlake clinic offers express care, which is a walk-in option, opened 12 hours a day, seven days a week and staffed by board-certified nurse practitioners to address common health needs, including coughs, colds and simple fractures or sprains, as well as wellness visits for camp or school health screenings.

The new location also offers X-Ray capabilities. In addition, primary care will be added at a later date so that patients from newborns to seniors can have their health care needs met.

“From a sports physical for your fourth grader, to an X-Ray needed for a broken bone, our new Eastlake location provides patients living in or near the area access to convenient care, when they need it the most,” said Christopher Kane, MD, CEO, UC San Diego Health Physician Group.

In June 2019, UC San Diego Health opened a clinic in Encinitas designed around the needs of the patient with same day appointments and integrated services, such as pediatrics, primary care and express care.

UC San Diego Health’s Rancho Bernardo location recently celebrated its first anniversary. Described as a “clinic of the future,” the 57,000 square foot facility offers patients increased access to a team of top doctors and nurses, including pediatricians and family medicine specialists. The location also offers an array of convenient services, such as urgent care, advanced imaging, and an optical boutique with integrated services, such as primary care, women’s health, occupational medicine and behavioral health. Specialty care such as cardiology, neurology, and orthopedics is also available, as is a retail pharmacy open to the general public.

Additional UC San Diego Health express and primary care sites are scheduled to open over the next four years. New locations will be offered throughout the community along public transportation lines.

"We have more locations and more doctors so patients now have more options. They can get same-day appointments, see a primary care physician or get urgent care — all without having to drive across the city,” said Maysent.

As UC San Diego Health continues to expand, patient feedback is a main focus. "I've never been more satisfied with the level of knowledge, professionalism and caring since I moved all of my health care to UC San Diego Health," said one UC San Diego Health patient. Another responded, "UC San Diego Health has been my go to for the past year. The staff is professional and always smiling. I feel very confident in my choice."

“We take the feedback from our patients — both positive and negative — very seriously,” said Kane. “Providing the most extraordinary care is our priority and hearing from our patients allows us to improve processes and experiences in our hospital system. Their voices are the ones that matter the most.”

UC San Diego Health also offers technology, such as the Save My Spot option, which allows patients to check wait times and reserve their spot in line at home or wherever is most convenient for them before coming to the clinic.

Whether patients see providers in Eastlake, Encinitas, Rancho Bernardo or at any of UC San Diego Health’s clinics or hospitals, all care is managed through one medical record to assure highly-coordinated, safe care. With the MyUCSDHealth mobile application, patients have the ability to manage their health information, communicate with their physicians and find helpful resources, such as directions and parking information.

UC San Diego Health is unique among local health care providers in that it is a nationally-recognized academic medical center. These specialized health systems offer multidisciplinary teams of experts who have access to medical and surgical resources not offered in other settings or networks. Many of the doctors at UC San Diego Health are also researchers at UC San Diego School of Medicine and Moores Cancer Center, the region’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, where they are developing the newest diagnostic criteria, therapies and treatments for the most challenging patient conditions.

UC San Diego Health, the region’s only academic health system, is dedicated to delivering outstanding patient care through commitment to community, groundbreaking research and inspired teaching. Its specialty care for serious and complex conditions is consistently ranked among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report and other organizations. The 808-bed academic health system includes UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest and Jacobs Medical Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, Moores Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Institute, Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion and Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, all in La Jolla.
