Physician Specialists
Michael Bouvet, MD, Surgical Oncology, Endocrine Surgery
Dr. Bouvet specializes in surgical oncology and endocrine surgery. He performs surgeries for tumors of the pancreas, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, liver, esophagus, and stomach, as well as for other conditions. He has performed many Whipple procedures for pancreatic cancer. In his recent medical publications, he has reported on new techniques for imaging pancreatic cancer and for understanding its causes and the factors that influence its growth. As an endocrine cancer specialist, Dr. Bouvet provides care for families with rare genetic forms of endocrine cancer, including multiple endocrine neoplasia types 1 and 2.
Samir Gupta, MD, Gastroenterology, Colorectal Cancer
Dr. Gupta is a board-certified gastroenterologist who specializes in identifying and managing the care of individuals with polyps, people with a family history of colorectal cancer, and those with hereditary gastroenterologic cancer syndromes, such as familial adenomatous polyposis and Lynch syndrome. His research includes leading and participating in clinical trials for screening and prevention of gastroenterologic cancer and epidemiologic studies of risk factors for colorectal cancer. Dr. Gupta is vice chair of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network's "Genetic/Familial High Risk Assessment: Colorectal" guideline committee, and is local site leader for an international clinical trial of two chemopreventive agents for reducing cancer risk among individuals with familial adenomatous polyposis.
Sonia Ramamoorthy, MD, Colorectal Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery
Dr. Ramamoorthy performs open and minimally invasive colorectal surgeries as well as all standard general surgery procedures. She has advanced training in colon and rectal surgery and has special certification in minimally invasive surgical techniques to treat cancers as well as other conditions in the colon, rectum, and anus. Dr. Ramamoorthy is experienced with the unique surgical needs of patients with polyposis syndromes and hereditary colorectal cancer.
Cheryl C. Saenz, MD, Gynecologic Oncology
Dr. Saenz is an Associate Clinical Professor in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences and a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), the largest multi-institutional organization conducting research into the treatment and prevention of gynecologic cancers. She is particularly interested in gynecologic cancer prevention, and provides specialized management for women at increased risk of ovarian and endometrial cancers.
Anne Wallace, MD, Surgical Oncology, Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Wallace is director of UC San Diego Health's Comprehensive Breast Health Center and is board-certified in both general surgery and plastic surgery. She has extensive experience in all aspects of breast health, specifically breast cancer and breast reconstruction. Her research interests include development of better imaging technologies for both treatment and detection of cancer. This specifically is linked with her strong interest in high-risk patients and breast cancer prevention. Dr. Wallace provides long-term management for women at high risk of developing breast cancer.
