PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Specialty Residency
Thank you for your interest in the UC San Diego Health PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics specialty residency. All of the residency programs at UC San Diego Health are ASHP-accredited and are fully committed to providing residents with a supportive learning environment and opportunities for professional growth. Residents accepted into the UC San Diego Health PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics specialty residency program will work as full-time members of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Medication Process team. The Informatics resident will receive formal Epic EHR training and will be expected to earn proficiency or higher in Epic Willow Inpatient. This residency program provides experience in the maintenance and optimization of the EHR, at all stages of the solution development life cycle, including identifying issues, prototyping, planning, designing, building, testing, validating, training, implementing and monitoring.
Program Summary
The resident will design and implement solutions related to incidents and requests reported by users, and new projects, covering the entire medication management process, including ordering, pharmacist verification, dispensing, documentation, and billing of medications. Additional learning opportunities include clinical decision support, e-prescribing, reporting, interfaces, retail pharmacy systems, and more. Graduating residents will be prepared to pursue a position as an informatics pharmacist, equipped with the training and skills necessary to support the entire medication management processes of the EHR.
Residency Positions Available Per Year
1 resident is accepted each year.
Starting Date
The residency is expected to begin on the last Monday of July or the first Monday of August, depending on the Human Resources orientation schedule.
Pharmacist License
Matched residents must be licensed pharmacists in the State of California before starting the residency year and no later than October 1st.
