PGY1 Pharmacy Residency in the Ambulatory Care Setting (92048)
Program Purpose
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency in the Ambulatory Care Setting (Program 92048) is designed to build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (e.g., BCACP, BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.
Program Summary
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (Program 92048) is an accredited and comprehensive 12-month post-graduate training experience. This program provides training opportunities focused on direct patient care in the ambulatory and transitional environments, with a wide variety of electives available. Residents will also receive individually tailored training in research and teaching, with structured mentorship support. The residency program emphasizes the development of clinical decision-making skills, discharge and transitions-of-care pharmacy operations, research, precepting/teaching and leadership in pharmacy practice. Residents will work at the top of their license and be involved in direct patient care, chronic disease state management, patient education, drug therapy monitoring, and the implementation of evidence-based practices.
Residency Positions Available Per Year
3 new residents are accepted each year
Stipend
The current annual stipend is $75,168
Beginning Date
The residency is expected to begin on the last Monday of June, or first Monday of July, depending on the Human Resources orientation schedule. The term will be for a period of 12 months per the offer letter.
Pharmacist Intern License
Matched residents must be licensed Pharmacist Interns in the State of California by the start of the residency program
Pharmacist License
Matched residents must be licensed Pharmacist in the State of California within 120 days of the start of the residency program

Applicants must participate in the ASHP Match and apply using PhORCAS.
Letters of Recommendation/Reference
Three letters are required. At least two of the references must be from preceptors or mentors who can directly comment on clinical practice and leadership skills.
