Guests are expected to keep all areas clean. There is a part-time housekeeper who cleans the community areas and prepares rooms for guest check-in. Complimentary washers and dryers are available. Fresh linens and towels are provided once a week.

Bannister Family House History

The Bannister Family House at UC San Diego Health provides a haven of hope and comfort for families with a loved one in long-term or critical care at UC San Diego Health.

In 1994, the late Ralph Bannister's generous donation enabled UC San Diego Health to construct Bannister Family House so that families would have a place to go when their loved one was in the hospital. Ralph Bannister experienced this need first-hand.

When his wife and daughter were sick in the hospital, Mr. Bannister witnessed countless families sleeping on cold, hospital floors with no place to go. He saw the stress and worry on their faces and knew they hadn't slept in a warm bed or had a homemade meal in days or even weeks.

He wanted to provide a home away from home for these families and the many generations of families to come. The house is named in memory of his late wife, Stella, and his late daughter, Joann.
