Comprehensive Breast Health Center Care Team

UC San Diego Health's breast specialists are leaders in their field and members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, which sets standards for cancer detection and treatment.

Your team of physicians will include board-certified professionals from across medical disciplines, led by center director Anne Wallace, MD, FACS. Dr. Wallace is board certified in general surgery and plastic surgery and specializes in breast health, focusing on breast cancer and reconstruction. She also is experienced in all forms of cosmetic breast and body-contouring surgery.

Other members of your team may include:

  • Pathologists, laboratory specialists who study the individual markers that make your cancer unique, and work with other physicians to recommend your individual treatment plan
  • Nurse case manager, who coordinates your care and leads you through your protocol to recovery
  • Social workers, who assist with personal and family issues and refer you to community resources such as cancer support groups, patient financial assistance, and transportation
  • Palliative care physicians, who help manage pain, uncomfortable side effects and other physical manifestations of your treatment that may diminish your quality of life
  • Psychologists or psychiatrists, who help deal with the stress and psychological issues brought on by cancer diagnosis and treatment
  • Dietitian, who consults with you about your diet and nutritious ways to optimize your health and quality of life during cancer treatment and afterwards, to reduce chances of recurrence
  • Occupational therapist, who may assist you with regaining range of motion in your arms and upper body
