Emotional, social, physical, and spiritual issues can all affect your well-being during cancer treatment. Although it can be difficult to talk about these important topics, addressing them can actually improve both cancer care and outcomes.
Our Team and Other Resources
Patient & Family Support Services is dedicated to strengthening meaning, value, resilience, transcendence, and dignity. We focus on improving your quality of life and relieving emotional suffering. We work as part of Moores Cancer Center care teams to provide integrated, whole-person care. We specifically focus on patients who develop stress, anxiety, or other mental health issues as a result of their cancer, and on those whose pre-existing mental health conditions are impacting their ability to engage in treatment.
We have expertise and experience in treating psychiatric and psychological needs — such as depression, anxiety, or insomnia — as well as providing other kinds of support. Our services are available to patients and families dealing with cancer and receiving care at Moores Cancer Center or other UC San Diego Health cancer care sites.
PFSS is funded through grants and private philanthropy. The help of volunteers greatly benefits all of our programs. We welcome volunteers for administrative assistance, research support, and patient and family care support. Please call (858) 822-5381 to learn more.
