What's TAVR?

TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure that replaces the heart's aortic valve. Your doctor will use imaging technology and a thin tube (catheter) to guide the new valve through your artery and up to your heart.

Benefits of TAVR

Rest assured that the procedure requires only tiny incisions, and there is no need to stop your heart or use a heart-lung machine for breathing. This minimally invasive technique has these advantages:

  • Easier and faster recovery compared to open-heart surgery
  • Less time in the operating room
  • Lower risk of stroke and future complications (unexpected problems)

Understand the Risks

As with any medical procedure, TAVR carries some health risks, such as bleeding or infection. Talk to your doctor about the:

  • Potential benefits and risks
  • Risk level based on your health, age, and other factors
  • Ways your care team works to keep you safe
  • What you can do to improve your outcome
